The UAE defence ministry said it detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran, the first such incident reported since a 4 May strike on Fujairah, and later assessed that they targeted maritime traffic; both missiles fell into the sea. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman called the accusation baseless.

Reuters and follow-on wires reported the UAE ministry’s 18 August 2026 detections. A later ministry statement said the missiles targeted maritime traffic; both fell into the sea without reported damage. Esmaeil Baghaei rejected the UAE account. The UAE also said it was suspending trade with Iran—that trade measure is not this package. UAE is not a seeded theatre actor; participants are Iran (attributed initiator) and the United States (affected regional campaign party).
