Ukraine's 1st Corps of the National Guard 'Azov' said on 17 October 2026 that claims by Russia's Defence Ministry to have captured the settlements of Zolotyi Kolodiaz, Novotroitske and Petrivka near Dobropillia in Donetsk Oblast were untrue and that all three remained under the control of the 'Bureviy' Brigade and other Ukrainian units, Ukrinform reported. Azov said Russian troops were infiltrating small infantry groups into the villages to raise flags and film them as proof of capture, and that Ukrainian forces were identifying and neutralising such groups. The Russian Defence Ministry statement itself was not read; control of the villages is contested.

Verification: unverified

Evidence: Azov Regiment denies Russian claims of capturing three settlements near Dobropillia
