On 17 August 2026 Houthis fired at least five ballistic missiles at a vessel off Mokha, claiming a Saudi military landing ship and four escorts. Subsequent reporting identified the struck vessel as the Amir Khan (IMO 1088504), a Yemeni-owned commercial deck cargo ship laid up empty for maintenance since December 2025. No casualties were reported — the crew had previously evacuated.
Reuters and the New York Times carried Saree’s Telegram claim of a Saudi military landing ship and four escorts. Open-source analysis and later reporting identified the hull as the Amir Khan, a Yemeni commercial ship in maintenance, not a Saudi landing craft. The Houthi target identification is retained as an attributed claim, contradicted by the vessel identity.

Strike occurrence is independently reported. Attribution rests on the Houthi claim and Yemeni government reporting. Houthi target identification (“Saudi military landing ship”) is contradicted by OSINT and press and is retained as a separate attributed claim.
