Iran's IRGC Navy said that on the morning of 17 October 2026 a second 'offending' supertanker, carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil, struck a naval mine while trying to transit the Strait of Hormuz through an 'unauthorized' route with its positioning and radar systems switched off, triggering a massive explosion and fire in its engine room and bringing the vessel to a complete stop, Press TV reported. The IRGC Navy released footage it said showed the tanker, and repeated that the strait is closed to vessels defying Iranian regulations. The statement did not identify the vessel, its flag, its exact position or the state of its crew. This is the second such IRGC claim on 17 October; the first (evt_2011cc0e) was reported earlier the same day. No UKMTO or independent confirmation of this second incident was read.
