Houthi authorities said a Saudi airstrike struck the Central Corrective Facility in Al-Hazm, the capital of Al-Jawf, on 7 September, killing at least seven people including a child and trapping inmates under rubble. Saudi Arabia has not commented. The casualty figures and the footage remain Houthi-sourced.

Xinhua, quoting Houthi-run al-Masirah, reported that an airstrike hit the prison in Al-Hazm on Monday and that women and children were among the casualties. The prison director told al-Masirah that 35 inmates and a woman visiting her husband remained trapped. dpa said Houthi-controlled health authorities put 14 people killed or injured in the wider Al-Jawf strikes and that the prison reports could not be independently verified. India Today, citing the same Houthi account carried by AP, said the warden named a dead child and two wounded. Yemen Press Agency, from Jawf, attributed the strike to Saudi forces and said several detainees were killed or injured. Riyadh issued no comment. The strike came as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces pushed toward Al-Hazm.

Why it matters

Al-Hazm is the prize of a Saudi-backed offensive in Al-Jawf. A strike on the provincial prison, if it happened as claimed, is the civilian-facility hit that will drive the next Houthi response along the Red Sea.
