Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned Ireland's ambassador, Aidan Cronin, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, and Germany's ambassador, Axel Dittmann, on 19 October 2026, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV and Iran International reported. Alireza Yousefi, head of the ministry's Western Europe department, rejected the EU leaders' mid-October statement criticising Iran's threats to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and its internal repression, and protested what Tehran called baseless accusations by German officials. Iran International said Germany had summoned Iran's ambassador earlier the same day over attempted attacks on Jewish community figures in Germany.
