Overnight into 8 September 2026 Russia launched a combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv. By evening, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said five people had been killed and 35 injured in the capital and that all fires had been extinguished, Apostrophe reported citing the SES press service, revising earlier midday SES figures of three killed and 25 injured. Afternoon updates associated additional deaths with a Solomianskyi warehouse strike under Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s reporting, folding those fatalities into the same capital cascade (+2 → 5). Explosions began around 03:30 Kyiv time. Damage and fires were reported across multiple districts including Holosiivskyi, Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Podilskyi and Dniprovskyi. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and Shahed-type drones, with dozens of intercepts. Exact fatality addresses remain unpublished — city-level point. Distinct from Buchanskyi district warehouse UAV fatalities the same day.

Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said explosions were heard in the capital for nearly five hours. More than 50 sites were damaged, among them at least 14 high-rise buildings, dormitories, schools, shops, filling stations and a flour production plant, and President Zelensky said a Russian drone partially destroyed the building of a Ukrainian television channel. Mayor Vitali Klitschko put the toll at five killed and close to 30 injured before the emergency service closed the day at five and 35.
