The US military has deployed two additional Patriot missile batteries to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to protect energy facilities, according to two US officials and a regional source. One battery was sent to Saudi Arabia to protect a key oil facility, and another was deployed to Qatar to defend a natural gas facility. The reporting says the deployments are meant to reassure Riyadh and Doha that Washington would shield their critical energy infrastructure if major combat operations against Iran resume, and that Riyadh would likely withhold permission for US use of its airspace without such assurances. A US Central Command spokesman declined to comment.
