Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on state television that Iran and Oman had agreed a temporary transit route through the Strait of Hormuz, about seven miles (11.3km) wide, with inbound traffic through a northern lane in Iranian territorial waters and outbound traffic through a southern lane in Omani waters coordinated with Iran.
Gharibabadi stressed that "the agreed-upon transit route with Oman is a temporary route" and that the waterway would not fully reopen until Washington honoured the commitments of the June interim deal, which lapsed in mid-August. Vessels are to require Iranian surveillance and permission before entering the channel. Precise coordinates were not published, so the package places the fact on the passage itself rather than inventing a lane geometry.
