The International Committee of the Red Cross warned on 14 October that hospitals in Yemen were overwhelmed by rising numbers of war-wounded patients, with Marib, Taiz and the Red Sea coast bearing some of the heaviest burdens. Some front-line facilities recorded more than 700 admissions in a week, it said, while surgical supplies, anaesthesia, oxygen and medicines were running short.

Why it matters

Limited trauma capacity threatens treatment for the wounded and other patients as fighting intensifies.
