Ukrinform and The Kyiv Independent, both citing the IAEA statement the agency posted on X on 3 October 2026, report that a series of drone attacks on the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant damaged transformers considered vital for maintaining the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant's off-site power supply. The IAEA placed the strikes on 19, 20 and 27 September 2026 and did not say who carried them out. It also reported that an attack on 22 September disabled an off-site radiation monitoring station, and that other attacks hit buildings in Enerhodar, reportedly killing one person. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is negotiating a new localised ceasefire to allow repairs, which would be the eighth IAEA-brokered arrangement of that kind. Neither newsroom identifies the attackers, and the two reports agree by citing the same agency statement.

Two newsrooms report the same IAEA statement posted on X on 3 October 2026. Their agreement does not constitute independent confirmation, and the IAEA itself does not attribute the attacks. The occurrence dates are the ones the agency gave, not the publication date.
