A Yemeni security source told The National that Houthi fighters were forced to redeploy inside territory they had newly seized on Yemen’s west coast after suffering “heavy losses” from pro-government airstrikes. The source said the Houthis were reducing visible human presence in the open coastal desert to avoid strikes, and that the redeployment inside recently seized ground restricts their access to the Bab al-Mandab. Government forces announced a “kill box” south of Hodeidah near Mokha/Dhubab; Col Majed Al Nuzaili told civilians to avoid the Taiz–Mokha road and the coastal route south from Mokha to Dhubab. The National notes government forces have not fully retaken the area. Houthis acknowledged dozens of air strikes on Saturday–Sunday in multiple governorates. Treat the heavy-losses and Bab al-Mandab control assessments as unverified single-source or analyst claims unless independently corroborated. On 15 September Clash Report cited Bloomberg that several Western European military assessments judge Saudi-backed forces are struggling to stop the Houthi advance and are unlikely to retake Mokha, the Red Sea port Houthis seized last week. Treat as unverified assessment alongside The National’s Yemeni-source redeploy claim.

Why it matters

A forced Houthi redeploy and reduced coastal presence after government kill-box strikes is a material setback inside newly seized west-coast territory and constrains Bab al-Mandab access short of a full government reoccupation.

Verification: unverified

Evidence: Houthis redeploy forces after 'heavy losses' in Yemen kill box, Clash Report: Bloomberg Western assessments unlikely Mokha retake

UNVERIFIED as to scale of losses, degree of Bab al-Mandab loss of control, and completeness of redeploy: primary wire is The National citing one Yemeni security source, plus Houthi admission of being targeted by dozens of air strikes and a government kill-box/video claim near Dhubab/Mokha. Distinct material development from standing Mokha campaign evt_3918e1d0 and from Perim/Yanbu items — CREATE, not revise. Bloomberg/Clash Western assessment (unlikely Mokha retake) conflicts in tone with government kill-box success narrative; keep both attributed; status remains unverified.
