At the noon briefing on 14 September 2026 the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General set out what UNIFIL peacekeepers observed in southern Lebanon between Thursday and Sunday: at least 32 Israeli air strikes inside the mission's area of operations; Israeli drones dropping explosive-filled jerrycans in the vicinity of Al Mansuri, all of which detonated, with at least nine explosions on Saturday alone; Israeli patrol boats operating daily in Lebanese territorial waters off Naqoura; and numerous violations of Lebanese airspace by drones, fighter aircraft and, on one occasion, a helicopter. On Sunday, Israeli personnel stopped a UNIFIL patrol north-east of Kafer Chouba for two hours.

Why it matters

A dated, official tally from the only force mandated to observe the line turns a pattern of strikes into a countable record, and it is the measure against which Israeli and Lebanese accounts of the security zone can be read.
