At the UN noon briefing on 14 September 2026, UNICEF reported that nine children had been killed or had died of their injuries in Gaza over the previous week, among them two sisters aged 6 and 12 and four children aged between 3 and 14, together with a pregnant woman and her unborn baby reportedly killed by gunfire. The same briefing set out the material constraint: under the UN 2720 Mechanism, Israeli authorities have approved the entry of some 13,500 litres of engine oil since March while more than 92,000 litres remain pending approval, leaving water pumping, desalination, health services and food distribution dependent on back-up generators short of both fuel and funding.

Why it matters

The two halves of the Gaza front are in one briefing: children killed inside a ceasefire, and the approvals queue that decides whether water and hospitals keep running.
