Fire at Jizan Aramco refinery after Houthis claim a drone strike

ATTACK
Location
Jizan Aramco refinery area, Saudi Red Sea coast
Actors
Houthis · Saudi Arabia · United States
Importance
Notable

Saudi authorities said a fire broke out early on 9 August at an Aramco refinery in Jizan on the Red Sea and was extinguished with no casualties reported; Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree later claimed a precise drone strike on the same facility in response to alleged Saudi drone flights over Saada and Hajjah.

Al Jazeera reported the Saudi Energy Ministry’s statement of a Sunday 9 August 2026 fire at the Jizan refinery without assigning a cause, and Saree’s subsequent claim that the Houthis had struck the site with a drone. Riyadh had not commented on the Houthi claim in the reviewed coverage. Distinct from the 25 July Jizan/Yanbu package already in corpus. Yemeni-government and Mocha land attacks the same day are not this package (Yemen’s internationally recognised government is not a seeded Red Sea actor).
