Two X accounts reported on 28 and 29 September 2026 that more than 50 members of Niger's security forces had been killed in an ambush in the west of the country, on the Wednesday, in attacks attributed to Islamic State affiliates. One of them said the same security sources counted nearly 100 losses across two attacks, with more than 30 more killed in a separate attack on the Saturday, and described both as showing growing pressure on the ruling military junta. The accounts give no town or coordinates for either attack, and the casualty figures come from unnamed security sources.

Two X accounts relaying unnamed security sources for the figures, and no place name beyond "the west of the country". No Nigerien official statement, no named locality and no independent confirmation were read. A later post describing the same losses as "twin ambushes in one day" misstates it, since the accounts give two different days.
