Iran's IRGC Navy said on 10 October 2026 that a crude oil supertanker suffered a major fire after striking a naval mine while exiting the Strait of Hormuz on an unauthorized route, and released footage of a blazing vessel. Press TV and Hormuz Letter carried the claim. DropSite News later relayed MenchOsint identifying the vessel in that footage as the Taiwan-registered GEM NO 2 carrying Saudi crude; that identification is OSINT and not independently confirmed here. Spectre Monitor separately cited the UAE National Guard saying Coast Guard teams rescued 22 Asian crew from a burning oil tanker in the Persian Gulf the same day; the UAE statement as relayed did not name the vessel or confirm the mine cause.
