Two X accounts relayed on 1 and 2 October 2026 an Amnesty International report published on Tuesday 29 September 2026 about alleged killings of Malian civilians by the Malian national army and Russian Wagner, later Africa Corps, personnel. One account said 34 civilians, including five children, would have been killed in the Timbuktu region across the seven localities the NGO studied; the other said the report documents at least 34 civilian deaths across Ségou, Mopti and Timbuktu, along with alleged torture, disappearances and looting during joint operations between 2023 and 2025, and that Amnesty called for investigations and accountability. The accounts disagree on whether the 34 deaths fall in one region or three, and neither is a single incident in the current week.
