On Sunday, 4 October 2026, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had hit Aramco sites in Riyadh and in the Khurais oil field with a ballistic missile and drones, and that both strikes had started large fires. The BBC and The New York Times carried the statement. He described the operations as retaliation for 50 airstrikes on Sana'a, al-Jawf, Taiz, Amran, Hajjah and Saada, as The World War 12 relayed. Saudi Arabia had not commented on this Sunday claim. A fire seen at an Aramco facility in Riyadh on Saturday is a separate, already published observation, and the Saudi-led coalition has called a Houthi claim of striking Riyadh misleading. No independent account confirmed damage at Khurais.
Why it matters
Khurais is one of Saudi Arabia’s largest oil fields. A Houthi claim that names it, on a day the government in Aden announced a wider campaign, is a threat to the energy sites the coalition is fighting to protect — and it is still only a claim.
