On the morning of 4 September 2026 a Russian attack hit Odesa. Early reports from City Military Administration head Serhii Lysak cited three injured; later updates from the State Emergency Service (DSNS), Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper, and the Odesa regional prosecutor’s office raised the toll to one killed and five injured. Intent, citing prosecutors, said a 60-year-old man was killed and the wounded included a 16-year-old boy, three women aged 22 to 89, and a 45-year-old man. Radio Svoboda, citing Kiper, likewise reported five injured including a child (the 16-year-old). Odesa City Council via Ukrinform and Kiper via Culture Meter placed the main nine-story residential hit in the city’s Kyivskyi district, where apartments on floors 6–8 were destroyed; DSNS also reported façades and windows of neighboring high-rises and about 28 parked cars damaged. Kiper separately reported drones destroying two private homes and damaging a two-story non-residential building and vehicles elsewhere in the Odesa area. Prosecutors described a massive attack using guided aerial bombs (KABs) and strike drones on residential areas. This morning strike is distinct from the overnight 2–3 September high-rise attack that injured 17, including three children.

Why it matters

A separate morning civilian hit centered on Odesa’s Kyivskyi district, with a confirmed fatality and five wounded after consecutive overnight high-rise strikes earlier in the week, shows the Black Sea port city’s residential districts remaining inside Russia’s early-September air campaign.
