U.S. Central Command said that on Saturday, 5 September 2026, the IRGC launched ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships — an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer — which evaded the attacks with no American personnel harmed. In response, CENTCOM said U.S. forces permanently disabled the IRGC crude oil carriers M/T Downy off Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask, and completely destroyed the unladen M/T Kylo (also known as Noxen) in the Gulf of Oman after directing its crew to abandon ship. On 6 September 2026 CENTCOM stated on X that M/T Kylo had sunk in the Gulf of Oman and released strike video; Iran International and other outlets carried the confirmation. CNN and DVIDS carried the 5 September Public Affairs release naming the three tankers and the two U.S. ship classes; hull numbers remain unpublished. Earlier on 5 September, Tasnim reported a small Iranian tanker about six nautical miles off Kharg Island hit by four U.S. projectiles with no casualties — consistent with the Kharg strand but without matching a named hull to CENTCOM’s list.

CONFIRMED via CENTCOM Public Affairs (DVIDS) and CNN: IRGC ballistic missiles at U.S. carrier + destroyer (evaded; no U.S. casualties); U.S. permanently disabled M/T Downy (Kharg) and M/T Stark 1 (near Jask); destroyed M/T Kylo/Noxen (Gulf of Oman). CENTCOM X 6 Sep ~00:36 UTC confirms Kylo sank with native video; Iran International reports the same. Reuters short wire earlier confirmed the three-tanker strike without names. Tasnim Kharg 6 nm strand is probable same-day context, not a fourth tanker. U.S. hull numbers still unpublished.
