Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force downed a US MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz early on 20 October 2026, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported, describing it as the 54th such US drone. Houthi-run Al-Masirah relayed the same IRGC statement, saying the drone was intercepted and brought down at dawn in the airspace of the Strait of Hormuz. State news agency IRNA also reported the IRGC announcement, and Press TV said the IRGC Public Relations Department's statement attributed the shoot-down to the Aerospace Force's 'advanced, new air defense system' operating within Iran's integrated air defence network. No wreckage, exact location or US military statement was read; the claim is unverified.
