Russian forces struck a residential neighbourhood of Sloviansk with FAB-250 aerial bombs at 03:40 local time on 17 October 2026, hitting two high-rise buildings, the Sloviansk City Council said. One person was confirmed dead and ten injured, four of whom were hospitalized, according to the head of the city's civil protection service. The State Emergency Service in Donetsk Oblast later said rescuers recovered from the rubble the body of their colleague Anatoliy Hopka, 41, and, as reported by Suspilne, gave a toll of two dead and 13 injured as of 16:20 local time; it is not clear whether that figure also covers the separate bombing of private homes later that morning (evt_6bbdf180). On the morning of 18 October the Sloviansk city military administration said several residents' bodies remained under the rubble of buildings destroyed by aerial bombs and that recovery work, suspended overnight for security reasons, had resumed. The administration also said six people were killed and 15 wounded in the city on 17 October from all Russian attacks, including FPV drones; that city-wide figure is not attributed to this strike alone. The event's impact figures are kept at the strike-specific count and are not combined with the day-wide totals. On 19 October Liakh said rescuers had recovered the body of a 48-year-old man from the rubble, and on 20 October he said another body had been recovered from the buildings destroyed in the 17 October strike, without giving the person's age or sex, as reported by Suspilne; search and rescue work was continuing. These recoveries are reported in the text and not added to the impact figures. On 21 October Liakh said the bodies of three women aged 52, 55 and 77 had been recovered from the rubble of the five-storey buildings hit on 17 October, that all of the dead had now been recovered, and that the total death toll had reached nine people, Suspilne reported. The impact figure now uses this official strike-specific total. On 21 October the State Emergency Service said on X that its rescue operations in Sloviansk had lasted five days, that the bodies of seven dead, including an emergency service employee, had been recovered from the rubble, that 12 people had been injured, and that two five-storey residential buildings had been destroyed; it did not explain the difference from the city's toll of nine, which remains the impact figure.
