Unconfirmed reports on 7 September said Iran launched multiple waves of anti-ship cruise missiles and Shahed-136 drones from Sirik, on Iran’s Hormozgan coast, toward a US-escorted tanker convoy on the southern Omani corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, and that explosions had been heard. CENTCOM, UKMTO and Iranian officials have not confirmed the salvo.

The reports named Sirik as the launch area and a large convoy of US-escorted oil tankers on the US-backed Omani route as the target, and said explosions had been heard. Neither CENTCOM, UKMTO, a major wire nor an Iranian official statement has confirmed launches, intercepts, hits or damage. A separate claim the same evening of ballistic missiles from Sirik is not this record.

Why it matters

The Omani corridor is the path Washington has been trying to keep open while Tehran still describes Hormuz as shut. A claimed salvo from Sirik at escorted tankers, even unconfirmed, is a test of whether that route can be used.

Evidence: Iran launches multiple waves of anti-ship cruise missiles and Shahed-136 drones from Sirik toward US-escorted vessels in the Omani corridor

Unconfirmed initial reports. No CENTCOM, UKMTO, wire or Iranian official confirmation of the launches, the explosions or any vessel damage. Do not treat a hit on the convoy as a fact.
