The Houthis fired three ballistic missiles on 19 October 2026 at the Al-Alam military camp in Shabwa governorate, southern Yemen, during a training exercise, a spokesperson for Yemeni government forces said, according to Al Jazeera, citing Anadolu and AP. The Shabwa local authority later said 53 people had been killed and 200 injured, news agencies reported; earlier figures from government officials and medical sources were at least 18 killed and more than 30 wounded. Shabwa Governor Awad al-Wazir later told Reuters that 58 people had been killed and more than 200 injured, and that 14 others remained missing; Reuters said it verified video from the province showing injured people and bodies on the ground. On 20 October a senior Yemeni government official told The Associated Press that the death toll had risen to 73, all new recruits; Shabwa Governor Awad Ibn al-Wazir told AP that the recruits were aged 18 to 20, that some were still missing and that more than 200 others were wounded, and said they were being trained to provide security in the province, not for combat operations. AP said the camp is in Jardan district, north of the provincial capital Ataq, on a supply route to Marib province. Presidential Leadership Council head Rashad al-Alimi said those killed were new recruits. Houthi armed forces spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the attack, saying it hit Saudi enemy concentrations at the Al-Alam camp, run by Saudi officers, in the eastern areas and caused dozens of dead and wounded, including Saudi officers; a military source quoted by the Houthi-run Saba agency placed the camp east of Al-Jawf. Basha Report said local sources described those targeted as newly recruited southern fighters, not Saudi forces. No Saudi or coalition statement on the incident was read.
